Your 8 Hour Amatrice Day Tour begins as your Private English Speaking Rome Driver will pick you up at your accommodation in Rome. In a comfortable and elegant Mercedes Benz vehicle, he will chauffeur you first to the stunning city of Rieti, in Lazio. Nestled in the Rieti valley, the city rests on a small hilltop and below the Sabine mountains. While here, you will visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Church of San Francesco, the stunning Flavio Vespasiano theatre and the Church of San Rufo. This last site is located in Piazza San Rufo, which is traditionally considered to be the center of Italy! Continue on your way to Amatrice. The town was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in August 2016, and through generous donations from all corners of the world, has been working toward reconstruction. It is here that the infamous pasta dish ‘Amatriciana’ was first created– an Italian favorite. Not only will you be tasting this mouthwatering dish, in its hometown, you will also be supporting the reconstruction of the city by dining at the first and only restaurant that has opened up for business after the earthquake. Alongside your delicious plate of Amatriciana, you will indulge in a Wine Tasting of the local red and white selection. This lunch will surely be a memorable one! After lunch, you’ll be headed back to the Eternal city. On the way back, your Private Driver will make a quick stop at the peaceful Lago of Campotosto and the city of L’Aquila in Abruzzo, destroyed by an earthquake in 2009.
